Directions: Garden State Pkwy to exit 82 -> rt 37 East -> left on Coolidge ave -> right on Bay ave -> all the way to the end. The beach by the parking lot is much wider than on the pictures.

1)this is a small new jersey residential beach that is closed to

kitesurfing memorial day to labour day. this is strictly enforced by

life guards and local town cops are frequent visitors in the beach

parking lot.

2)There are a number of hazards :

a)south of the launch is a bulk head. on NE wind like today your

outgoing tack will bring you close to the bulk head. you need to stay

upwind to safely pass this obstacle.

b)once you get out in Barnegat Bay you are in a busy part of a boat

channel. if you have a breakdown unless you are well upwind at the

northern part of the launch you will be exiting thru someone's canal

front or bay front property.

c)NE winds here are notoriously fickle and if the wind dies while

you're in the middle of the bay you are making the same exit.

d)the cove is very narrow and can accomodate a maximum of 4 kiters at

a time on the inside. on busy days riders head upwind in the bay but

the conditions are cone size large chop.

d) sort of covers it.

This spot does have a few dangers and I wouldn't suggest kiting here unless you're confidently staying upwind.. but, this is the case with most other spots in NJ. Sandy Hook has it's rocks, power lines, currents , and underwater jetties , James St. has the channel and private houses , Ocean beaches have jetties and lifeguards, etc. etc.
